The 3rd edition of Lady Crane International Fashion Collection was launched on Saturday evening at Fairway Hotel. It was revealed the actual event would take place on 10th May. According to the brain behind the event, Sarah Nyamwenge, over 20 designers from Europe, Africa and Uganda’s home-based designers will showcase on 10th May at Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort. Brussels Airlines is the official carrier of Lady Crane. Last year’s event saw designers from Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, UK joining some of Uganda’s top designers like Stella Atal, Brenda Maraka, Edie Odete and Arne Clarie. Part of the proceeds from the event go to towards supporting an orphanage called New Jerusalem Nursery and Primary School in Kiralamba Village, Nakasongola District in Uganda.
The invite only event on Saturday was to launch the 2014 event, announce the partners and reward the past ones with certificates. There was a showcase with designs from Edie Odete and Renzioni while Stella Atal dressed some of the guests. There was a lukewarm performance from an all girl dance group, The Gazelle before Saxophonist Brian Mugenyi stepped up to do his magic. He performed two pieces but his touch on Luther Vandross’ So amazing was amazing.
Sarah Nyamwenge revealed that bringing the designers who have showcased in different countries to Uganda helps the local designers’ creativity and networking.
“The Lady Crane has the ability to create opportunities for young Ugandan designers and models to gain creative inspiration, cultural exchange and to network on an international level” she said.
The guest of honor at the event, Maria Mutagamba, Uganda’s Minister for Tourism, praised Nyamwenge for her role in last year’s Miss Tourism Uganda beauty pageant. She pledged the ministry’s support towards Lady crane.
